Music Teacher Instrumental – High School (2026‑2027)
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will develop students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music, exposing them to a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. The teacher will identify, promote, and develop each student's talent in vocal and instrumental musical expression.
Essential Functions- Develops and administers a music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Creates a balanced music program and organizes lessons so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Utilizes a repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.
- Plans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining behavior standards for practice, rehearsal, and performances.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other district administrators.
EquipmentUses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy & fax machines, and telephone. Use of musical instruments.
Travel RequirementsTravels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to play an instrument or instruments and to conduct students in playing instruments (for instrumental music).
- Ability to instruct in voice (for choral/voice music).
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work; to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the work.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Certification & License- Delaware State Certification as a Music Teacher.
- Successful candidates must provide evidence of successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out‑of‑state teaching license.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
Teacher Certification – Delaware Code Title 14 Section 1500. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.
