Overview
Early Childhood Teacher
- PreK at Seaford High School for the School Year.
- Applies strategies and techniques to foster independence, self-reliance and social skills.
- Delivers lesson plans, presentation of learning materials, and conduct of instructional exercises.
- Monitors student progress regarding individual educational plans and goals.
- Monitors individual students and/or small groups in a variety of instructional activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional lessons by instructional personnel.
- Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior.
- Uses a variety of instructional materials and learning aids geared to the instruction level of children.
- Monitors students during classroom activities, recesses, and field trips.
- Operates and assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids and media and computer assisted instructional equipment.
- Maintains an orderly, safe, and positive learning environment.
- Depending on students' needs, assists students with basic personal care activities such as dressing, toileting or bathroom needs including catheterization, feeding and grooming.
- Uses good judgment regarding appropriate action to assist injured or physically ill students and to assist in medical emergencies.
- Assists students on and off the bus as needed.
- Administers a variety of tests and records results.
- Attends specialized training as required.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other district office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Develops and adheres to Individualized Educational Plan, outlining the necessary supports, accommodations and goals for an individual child.
- Meets with parents and staff regarding the plan and makes necessary adjustments throughout the year.
- Work with children who can vary from mild to severe disabilities, using specialized techniques to help them reach their goals.
- Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in Exceptional Children/Special Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Certification/License:
Information about Delaware Certification/Licensure can be found on the Delaware Department of Education website: - Successful candidates must provide evidence of successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out of state teaching license. An educator applying for a license in the State of Delaware with less than 1 year of experience will be placed on an Initial License and will be required to take and pass a Performance Assessment by the end of their 2nd year of teaching.
Applicants with one completed year of experience, but less than 4 years of experience will receive an Initial License, and are NOT required to pass a Performance Assessment (with proof of current and valid out of state license). Current holders of an Initial license are exempt from requirements to pass a Performance Assessment. - Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

- Delaware Code Title 14 Section 1500.
Note:
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.

- All final candidates for employment must have a satisfactory criminal background check before being placed on contract/payroll as per State of Delaware regulations.
