Elementary School
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementation of district-approved curriculum; document teaching, student progress, activities, and outcomes; address specific educational needs of individual students; create a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, modifying methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; provide individual and small-group instruction as necessary.
- Instruct students in responsible citizenship principles and other subject matters required by law and district regulations.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with parents and students.
- Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing classroom behavior standards for a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with grade-level elementary professionals to evaluate and assess curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment; maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students during off‑classroom activities, including transportation.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and district office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
EquipmentUse standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, differentiating instruction based on learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships.
Work in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile- Certification/License:
Delaware State Certification as a Special Education Teacher and Elementary Teacher – 1521. - Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
Teacher Certification – Delaware Code Title 14 Section 1500. A minimum of a high‑school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.
Employment DetailsFull‑time, temporary position ending June 30th; 10 months (188 days).
