Position OverviewThe Surgical Tech – First Assist plays a critical role in supporting surgeons during operative procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and successful outcomes. This position actively assists with exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, and other intraoperative functions while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and surgical excellence.

- Assist the surgeon directly during procedures, including exposure, retraction, hemostasis, and suturing as appropriate
- Maintain strict sterile technique throughout surgical cases
- Anticipate surgeon needs and respond efficiently during procedures
- Support optimal surgical workflow and patient safety
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and perioperative staff
- Adhere to all regulatory, safety, and infection control standards
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Surgical Assisting program (community college, vocational, or hospital-based)
- Current Certified First Assistant credential (CFA, CSA, or SA-C) through one of the following:
- American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- National Surgical Assisting Association (NSAA)
- Current CPR certification required
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered
- Strong working knowledge of surgical anatomy and operative procedures
- High level of technical precision and attention to detail
