Position: Speech Language Pathologist - District Office - 2026-2027 School Year

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.

Responsibilities
  • Works with students with speech disorders such as difficulty producing speech sounds correctly, fluency issues, voice or resonance problems.
  • Works with students with language disorders (trouble understanding others or sharing thoughts, ideas, and expressive language). These may involve phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatics of language in functional and socially appropriate ways.
  • Works with students with social communication disorders, including difficulty communicating for social purposes, adapting speech for different listeners and settings, or following conversational rules.
  • Works with students with cognitive-communication disorders, problems organizing thoughts, paying attention, remembering, planning, and/or problem-solving, often resulting from stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, or congenital conditions.
  • Works with students with swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
  • Provides aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Provides augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive or language comprehension disorders.
  • Works with students who do not have speech, language, or swallowing disorders but want to learn how to communicate more effectively, such as accent modification.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education and other administrators.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Section 504, and other federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to select and provide a wide range of intervention strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Effective computer skills needed for Microsoft Office suite and other therapy-related software.
  • Ability to determine the need for a speech therapy evaluation, select and administer appropriate assessment tools, and evaluate students.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work and engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the course of work.
Certification & Licensure
  • State certification to practice as evidenced by current state licensure as a Speech Pathologist (Delaware Division of Professional Regulation).
  • Motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to provide own transportation.
Employment Details
  • Temporary position ending June 30; 10 months / 188 days (prorated if start date after the first day).
  • Full‑time position.
