The Delaware Art Museum is seeking a Human Resources Manager who is responsible for overseeing and executing human resource strategy and tactics for the workforce of 60+ employees. The HR Manager will be a link with management and employees fostering the mission and goals of the Museum. This is the ideal position for a seasoned HR generalist. This is a 20 hour per week nonexempt position reporting to the Executive Director.

The position is hybrid requiring on-site presence Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities

The HR Manager will develop and execute all HR functions to include:

Strategic Management
  • Working in concert with Leadership Team, develop and implement HR strategies aligned with museum goals.
Employee Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, providing guidance, coaching, and conflict resolution to employees and managers.
  • Foster employee engagement through programs, communication, and initiatives that promote a strong workplace culture.
  • Conduct investigations and resolve employee relations issues promptly and effectively.
  • Be a resource for current employees on museum policies and procedures.
  • Develop and execute a training agenda for advancement of museum and employee relations needs.
Performance Management
  • Manage annual performance review process including maintenance of forms and tracking results.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to employees and managers on employee performance, discipline, supervision, and complaints.
  • Work with management on disciplinary actions.
Recruiting and Onboarding
  • Manage recruitment and selection processes to attract top talent.
  • Analyze the skills and qualities required for positions to develop and maintain job descriptions.
  • Advertise vacancies, track and assess applications, interview applicants, conduct reference checks, and make recommendations to management.
  • Oversee onboarding of new employees and ensure a smooth transition.
  • Coordinate new hire paperwork logistics and ensure all new employees are issued appropriate work tools.
  • Develop training agenda as well as other staff development as needed.
Compensation
  • Participate in salary surveys,
  • Develop salary recommendations based on survey data.
  • Serve as liaison to Compensation Committee of the Board.
  • Support compensation committee with Executive Director annual review.
  • Ensure compliance and equity within the organization and competitiveness in the labor market.
  • Collaborate with Finance team on annual review and selection of benefit programs.
  • Manage benefits administration for the organization including open enrollment, plan renewals, vendor management, and invoices.
  • Provide support to employees navigating the benefit offerings.
  • Administer workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance programs.
General
  • Maintain Employee Handbook and all personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources and museum functions, and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Maintain staff contact list and organization charts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management preferred or the equivalent level of related work experience. HR certifications are a plus.
  • Three to five years of progressive experience in HR. One year of HR business partner/management role.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of recruitment, selection, training, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and work effectively with senior leadership and employees at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with the ability to navigate complex HR situations.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.

Compensation and Benefits

Our pay is $30/hr employees are eligible for a 403(b) plan, museum membership, employee discounts and free parking.
