Job SummaryThe Independence School Summer Camp Nurse is responsible for the care and supervision of all medical services. They will provide medical treatment to campers and staff, administer medication, comply with all required documentation, act as a health educator for campers and staff, and communicate pertinent information to parents and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in organizing and setting up the camp office.
- Administer immediate first aid to injured parties, perform nursing assessment, and implement intervention as guided by nursing judgement.
- Maintain camper medical records, ensuring parents/guardians have proper medical forms submitted.
- Monitor immunizations and communicable diseases; oversee infection control.
- Assess the environment to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
- Oversee medication administration, anaphylaxis list, and health care plans.
- Maintain the school’s AEDs.
- Inventory supplies for counselors’ first aid kits.
- Keep a daily log of camper office visits, treatments, and medication administration.
- Accept and store all prescription and emergency medications.
- Administer prescription, emergency, and OTC medications when necessary.
- Manage illness and injury.
- Communicate with parents and counselors of a camper’s illness or injury.
- Serve as a medical resource that bridges the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies.
- Be familiar with The Independence School’s health protocols and standing orders.
- Complete and follow up on incident reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Licensed as a registered nurse in Delaware; BSN preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to maintain health forms and paperwork.
- Ability to maintain and administer all medications.
- Ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure.
- Excellent working skills including communication, organization, and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring the nurse. Must be able to assist in an emergency (fire, evacuation, injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
