Responds to complaints and work requests from the public;
Responds to after hour emergencies; works with other utility departments when need arises;
Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repairs streets, curbs and alleys
- Makes utility cuts.
- Operates heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Prepares worksites.
- Performs routine maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Cleans up worksites after jobs are complete.
- Install new drain pipes and repair old drain pipes.
- Cleans drainage ditches.
- Maintains road rights-of-way, picking up brush and performing regular mowing.
- Builds and installs street signs
- Responds to complaints and work requests from the public.
- Responds to after hours emergencies.
- Works with other utility departments when need arises.
- Assembles and makes ready tools and materials necessary to complete jobs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
High School diploma or GED. Valid Texas Driver's license., Class B CDL within one (1) year of date of employment. One (1) year of street maintenance experience preferred. Asphalt experience and experience working with paving equipment is preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of proper equipment used in repair and maintenance of streets and alleys.
• Ability to operate and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment such as backhoes, pothole patch unit (AMZ), dump trucks, as well as assorted hand tools.
• Ability to read, measure and calculate types and sizes of materials needed for street repairs and utility cuts.
• Ability to reason amount of time required to complete job process.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written.
Special Requirements
Ability to work outside in all temperature extremes. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds in a safe manner. May be required to respond to after hours emergencies.
