Lead Software Systems Engineer
Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) invites candidates to join the Evolved Strategic Satcom (ESS) Software Engineering team in Seal Beach, CA. The ESS program is a critical part of the U.S. military’s nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) network, providing nuclear‑survivable connectivity. The role involves developing software tools and services for advanced satellite and ground systems in a fast‑paced, Agile and CI/CD environment.
PositionResponsibilities
- Leads, develops and maintains requirements, architecture, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for high‑performance APIs between front‑end and back‑end software services.
- Leads support software development activities in an Agile environment using Dev Sec Ops methodologies, integrating completed components into a fully functional system.
- Leads the development of critical features and takes ownership of the full development lifecycle from design through deployment.
- Builds, architects, and consumes APIs and backend services within the platform ecosystem, emphasizing automation, testing, and security.
- Leads code reviews to maintain code quality, enforce best practices, and ensure compliance with established standards.
- Leads the creation and translation of design mockups into functional, visually appealing user interfaces using modern front‑end frameworks and technologies.
- Advocates for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that positively impact the team and broader organization.
- Works effectively in ambiguous environments, provides mentoring and leadership to the team, and self‑directs work as needed.
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). A clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 5+ years’ experience with software development for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing.
- 5+ years of development experience using Python.
- 3+ years’ experience with JavaScript (e.g., Angular, jQuery).
- 3+ years’ experience working with Type Script.
- Bachelor of Science in an accredited engineering, science or computer science discipline and 9+ years of related work experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 13+ years of directly related experience, or 17+ years of related experience.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in software development on government programs.
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing intuitive user interfaces featuring real‑time, 2D/3D geospatial visualization.
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, integration, and testing.
- 5+ years of experience with database technologies (Postgres, SQL/No
SQL). - 3+ years of experience with Java and FastAPI (Python API).
- In‑depth knowledge of Command and Control (C2) systems, mission planning, ground systems, and real‑time application requirements.
- Strong experience using CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, builds, and deployment workflows.
Successful candidates must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
Work LocationThis position is expected to be 100% onsite at one of the listed location options in Seal Beach, CA.
TravelPosition may require travel up to 10% of the time.
