The Department of Social Sciences and Global Studies, housed in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science (CAHSS) , invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the field of History. We are seeking a historian committed to undergraduate teaching, active scholarship, and professional service. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach United States/American history from early America to the present.

This position will support our new History major, set to launch in Fall 2027. We are looking for a candidate who is capable of engaging our diverse student population in historical analysis and application, including student research. We seek a colleague who is excited to collaborate across disciplines as we add this new major to our department’s existing offerings in Global Studies, Sociology, and interdisciplinary Social Sciences.

The successful applicant will teach 12 units per semester in courses covering United States history and other courses in History or interdisciplinary social sciences. Teaching responsibilities may include a combination of in-person and online modalities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach lower- and upper-division courses in modern United States history
• Willingness to teach other history and social science courses as needed
• Mentoring students in the History major
• History curriculum development and assessment
• Research and other scholarly or creative activities
