Purpose
Lead, organize, and oversee all physical planning activities from program conception to construction completion for campus physical planning projects. Play a key role in implementation of the campus Master Plan, capital outlay program, and planning for land use and facilities needs of campus auxiliaries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Project Planning:
Independently manage capital project scope development and schematic design, prepare RFPs, coordinate with consultants and construction management, and maintain project scope consistency. - Auxiliary Planning:
Lead planning and design of land use, facilities, and infrastructure needs for campus auxiliaries; manage planning studies and committees. - Capital Outlay Planning:
Collaborate with staff to develop and maintain a Capital Outlay Program and support annual CIP processes. - Environmental Oversight:
Lead environmental policy development and reviews related to CEQA, NEPA, CERCLA, the MEC cleanup, and compliance requirements. - Plans/Studies and Regional Planning:
Oversee the preparation of plans and studies, coordinate with surrounding communities and agencies, and facilitate planning meetings. - Mapping, Documentation, and Database Management:
Prepare maps, documentation, GIS services, and manage land use entitlements and easements. - Other Functions:
Attend campus meetings, collaborate with surrounding jurisdictions, and perform other duties as assigned.
Demonstrated knowledge of public and private entities, complex data integration, advanced planning theories, and environmental regulations. Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate with diverse stakeholders, and use information systems effectively.
Minimum QualificationsFoundation in public administration principles, typically a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and administrative work experience.
Specialized SkillsExperience with capital project scope development, RFPs and consultant coordination; extensive knowledge of land use and facilities planning, basic statistics, and research writing. Proficiency in architectural services and project management. Ability to interpret legal and environmental reviews and communicate with high-level contacts.
Preferred Qualifications /Desirable Experience
- Three to five years of experience in planning, property management, architecture, or related fields (or the appropriate degree).
- Advanced degree in planning, transportation, geography, architecture, or related discipline with experience on a college campus.
- Proficiency with GIS and AutoCAD, AICP certification, and LEED accreditation.
- All offers contingent upon successful background check.
- Mandated reporter for Title IX and child abuse reporting.
- Responsible for detailed Level 1 confidential information.
- Must possess valid driver’s license, Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under university liability coverage.
Primarily office-based with extensive computer use. Requires travel between campus offices, off-campus sites, and occasional weekend or evening work.
