Position: SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC)

This position is part of the Defense Human Resources Activity. You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the 13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Mastery of IT Security:
    Demonstrating mastery of IT systems security principles, concepts, and methods. This includes comprehensive knowledge across the 10 security domains (e.g., access control, cryptography, security architecture, business continuity) and a deep understanding of the total infrastructure protection environment and federal security protocols.
  • Certification and Accreditation (C&A):
    Possessing mastery of technical and non-technical C&A requirements, processes, and assessments. This includes skill in applying policies and regulations according to DoD, NSA, DISA, NIST, DIACAP, and FISMA standards (including NIST 800-53) to certify and accredit systems and networks.
  • Policy and Planning:
    Proven ability to develop, implement, and disseminate IT security tools, procedures, and practices. This includes creating long-range plans and specifications to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and anticipate future IT security challenges.
  • Technical Security Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of a wide range of IT infrastructure, including data centers, networks (LAN/WAN), servers (Windows/Unix), and endpoints. This knowledge is sufficient to identify vulnerabilities and recommend technology-specific solutions.
  • Leadership and Communication:
    Effective written and oral communication skills to advise senior leadership, customers, and project managers. This includes expertise in technical writing to draft specifications, briefings, and reports for various audiences and the ability to work independently to ensure security controls are implemented and tested.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services;

  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
