Job DescriptionJOB TITLE: Part-Time Van Driver (0.4375 FTE)
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to transport students by van/bus to and from school, home and activity destinations in a safe and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal history clearance (background and HB 2062).
- Three years normal driving experience.
- Valid Oregon Class C Non-Commercial Driver’s License.
- Pass an Employment Drug & Alcohol Assessment, and Pass a school bus driver physical.
- Basic computer/Technology skills.
- Spanish speaking skills.
- Drive small school vehicles (Type 10 vans and Type 20 buses) on regular routes, activity trips, and field trips in a variety of weather conditions.
- Monitor and guide student behavior, enforce school and safety rules, maintain order among student passengers.
- Make student referrals to supervisors, teachers and school administrators as needed.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, bus cleaning and fueling as needed.
- Operate accessories such as fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, tire chains, and first aid kits.
- Read and follow maps and oral and written directions; be on time for assignments and ready for work.
- Communicate regularly with office support, trainers, dispatch regarding assignments and schedules.
- Interact with routing team to maintain up-to-date and accurate route and student information.
- Make mechanical and repair referrals and provide information to mechanics as needed.
- Work closely with the Special Education department to build and adapt transportation plans for students with special needs.
- Exercise sound judgment in varying weather conditions, on various surfaces and changing traffic conditions.
- Maintain concentration and patience in frequently noisy and congested traffic environments.
- Complete and file reports and other required documents accurately and timely.
- Participate in district-required meetings and training activities as required.
- Maintain required classroom hours, certifications and training to meet Oregon Department of Education driver requirements.
- Work well with others, communicating effectively (orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff.
Works a school year calendar, approximately 183 days at FTE 0.4375. Salary is based on OSEA schedule, starting $21.27–$24.53/hr, with benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and two personal days, pro-rated per school year.
