Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking a skilled Transportation Engineer 3 to serve as the Quality Verification Engineer in Sea Tac, WA. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a complex design-build project while ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and performance. Working closely with the Project Engineer and Field Operations Manager, you will help oversee the Design-Builder’s quality control and quality assurance activities and lead the State’s Quality Verification processes throughout final design and construction.

In this role, you will serve as a critical link between design, construction, and contract requirements. You will review and provide technical comments on preliminary design and construction submittals, monitor compliance with Design-Build requirements, and participate in utility, staging, quality, schedule, and other project task force meetings. Your expertise will help ensure the Design-Builder delivers work that meets WSDOT’s standards, specifications, and contractual requirements making this an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys collaboration, problem-solving, and having a direct impact on successful project delivery.

What

to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the QV Engineer will:

  • Perform quality verification and oversight of design-build construction activities.
  • Plan, schedule, direct and monitor all State and consultant oversight activities
  • Prepare Quality Verification audits.
  • Assist Change Order preparation and processing.
  • Review monthly progress payment invoices to verify % of work completed for various work schedule items. Drive a WSDOT vehicle to and from project sites.
  • Transport up to 50 pounds of materials and equipment.
  • Supervise the assigned field construction staff responsible for providing Quality Verification oversight, and field inspection duties for the construction project.
  • Plan, assign, and review the work of staff, adjusting assignments and schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels and respond to fluctuating workloads.
  • Lead by facilitating, coaching, mentoring, supporting and assisting the assigned staff.
Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required:

  • Engineering Knowledge and Application: Demonstrated understanding of civil engineering principles and experience applying technical knowledge to transportation-related projects and recommending appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Design-Build Construction Inspection and Quality Management:Experience serving as a construction project inspector on design-build projects, including implementing or supporting construction quality management processes and interpreting complex construction plans, provisions, and standards.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

    Strong communicator with proven ability to lead and coach subordinate staff, including evaluating performance, identifying training needs, and resolving personnel issues.
  • Technical Interpretation and Analysis: Experience reading, interpreting, analyzing, and reviewing contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with project requirements and engineering standards.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate technical information clearly to a variety of stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and the public.
