Certified Entry Level Police Officer

NOTE:
This exam is for experienced law enforcement officers only. If you are not currently certified or do not have the required experience, do not apply for this posting. A separate application process is used for entry-level officers.

Please read the educational and experience requirements and include on your application: name of basic law enforcement academy attended, credits completed, the state or territory of training, and attach your Police Academy Certification.

The City of Tukwila is a small city (under 10 square miles) with about 22,000 residents and a high volume of visitors. More than 80 languages are spoken in the Tukwila School District.

The Tukwila Police Department employs 77 commissioned officers and 24 non-commissioned staff. If you are a current law enforcement officer who does not meet time-in-service requirements for Certified Entry Level, you may qualify to test as an Exceptional Entry candidate.

• Performs investigative tasks, evaluates cases, collects and preserves evidence, interrogates suspects and questions witnesses.
• Enforces traffic and parking regulations; directs traffic; investigates traffic accidents and prepares reports.
• Determines when searches, seizures and arrests are warranted; may involve foot or vehicle pursuits.
• Performs judicial support activities including testifying in court and related duties.
• Assists in administrative and supervisory tasks, and public relations.
• Operates firearms per department rules; cleans and maintains firearms and vehicles.
• Patrols designated city areas by vehicle or on foot; completes special details and prepares reports.
• Writes reports and maintains daily logs; serves warrants and transports prisoners.
• Responds to citizen complaints and represents the department at public meetings on topics of interest.
