Park Operations Supervisor - Natural Resources

Reporting to the Deputy Parks and Recreation Director, this position leads the Parks Maintenance and Natural Resources Division, overseeing the care, preservation, and enhancement of Sea Tac’s parks, trails, forests, and natural areas. This position is one of two supervisory roles within the Parks Operations Division; this supervisor focuses on Natural Resources and operations, while the second supervisor oversees Facility Rentals and related operational functions.

The supervisor manages daily operations, directs staff, coordinates with internal and external partners, and ensures that parks and natural resource programs are delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with City goals. This position is exempt and not eligible for overtime.

• Plan, direct, and coordinate park maintenance activities, including trails, landscapes, buildings, forest management plans, the citywide tree canopy plan, volunteer stewardship programs, and environmental education initiatives. E

• Oversee maintenance schedules, project timelines, and resource allocation to ensure high-quality operations across assigned properties. E

• Lead and support assigned staff through task assignment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation. E

• Review and approve timesheets and leave requests; recommend disciplinary actions when necessary. E

• Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection processes for new hires and promotional opportunities. E

• Prepare, implement, and monitor the division budget; review and recommend approval of expenditure requests. E

• Track and code invoices, monitor P-Card purchases, and forecast staffing, materials, and supply needs. E

• Manage procurement of equipment, supplies, and materials; develop and review specifications and vendor quotes. E

• Maintain accurate records, reports, and contracts related to park operations, equipment, and improvement projects. E

• Collaborate with other City departments, outside agencies, community organizations, and the public to address service requests, concerns, and inquiries. E

• Respond to phone and email inquiries related to park maintenance and coordinate work with Facilities and Recreation staff as needed. E

• Assist the Deputy Parks and Recreation Director and senior management with reports, presentations, and operational updates. E

• Identify emerging issues or operational challenges and elevate them appropriately. E

• Perform related duties as assigned. E

• Associate degree in horticulture, landscape architecture, park management, business administration, or a related field.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in urban forestry, forest management programs, or environmental education.

• Minimum of two (2) years of operational supervisory experience.

OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job.

• Valid Washington State Driver’s License within 45 days of appointment.

• Satisfactory three-year driving abstract.

• Ability to respond to emergency call-backs; occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

• Washington Public Operator’s Pesticide License (or ability to obtain within six months).

• ISA Certified Arborist or Municipal Specialist (or ability to obtain within one year).

• ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)

• Additional ISA or ICC certifications related to arboriculture, forestry, or natural resource management.

Ability to respond to emergency call-backs; occasional evening or weekend work may be required. This position includes a regular weekend schedule, with Saturday and Sunday as standard workdays.
