Business Tax Advisor
We are seeking an experienced Business Tax Advisor to provide comprehensive tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for closely held businesses, partnerships, and corporate clients. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical tax knowledge with client-facing experience to optimize tax positions, manage compliance, and support business decisions. This role works closely with partners and client teams to deliver practical, timely tax solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and flow-through entities, including preparation and review of K-1s.
- Provide tax planning and strategy for business clients, focusing on entity selection, partnership allocations, tax basis, distributions, and transaction structuring.
- Lead tax compliance projects in a public accounting environment, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and quality control.
- Research complex tax issues and apply authoritative guidance to client situations; prepare memos and recommendations for tax positions.
- Serve as a client-facing advisor, explaining tax impacts, presenting options, and coordinating with client management and outside counsel.
- Coordinate and supervise engagement teams, review staff work, mentor junior staff, and contribute to practice development.
- Assist with tax provision calculations, ASC 740 support, and tax accounting matters as needed.
- Support business development efforts by identifying client needs, preparing proposals, and participating in client meetings and presentations.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
- 5+ years of experience in public accounting or equivalent tax advisory experience, with significant exposure to business and partnership taxation.
- Strong technical expertise in federal and state tax laws, partnership taxation, and preparation/review of K-1s.
- Demonstrated experience working in public accounting engagements, including leading teams and managing client relationships.
- Excellent tax research and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into practical business advice.
- Proven client service and communication skills; ability to present to executives and work cross-functionally.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field required; JD or advanced tax degree strongly preferred (nice to have).
- Familiarity with tax software and Microsoft Office; experience with tax provision software and practice management tools a plus.
- Nice to have:
Juris Doctor (JD), additional accounting certifications, and hands-on experience preparing and analyzing K-1 schedules.
