Who We Are:

Metrie is North America's largest manufacturer and distributor of interior millwork, producing and selling interior finishings. Established in 1926 and still owned by the founding family, we have been steadily growing our footprint and industry leadership for nearly 100 years. We help people transform houses into homes through product excellence and a superior customer experience.

We're looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you'll independently manage full-cycle, multi-state U.S. payroll and bring strong technical payroll and tax expertise to help ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable requirements.

What You'll Do:

As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a key role in delivering accurate and timely payroll across multiple U.S. states and pay frequencies. This is a hands‑on technical role for someone who brings deep multi-state payroll knowledge, enjoys solving complex payroll and tax issues, and can manage recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Location:

Remote, U.S. Candidates must be located in the Pacific or Mountain time zone to support the team and meet payroll deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll, including California hourly payroll, across weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly pay frequencies.
  • Process new hires, terminations, and other employee payroll changes accurately and on time.
  • Set up and maintain multi-state payroll taxation, including applicable state and local taxes and tax accounts.
  • Apply strong U.S. payroll tax knowledge to research and resolve payroll and taxation issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Complete required state payroll reporting and support ongoing payroll compliance activities.
  • Import pay, time batches, and employee data into ADP Workforce Now and validate information for accuracy.
  • Create and maintain ADP Workforce Now reports to support payroll processing, reconciliation, analysis, and stakeholder requests.
  • Complete applicable RROP calculations and other technical payroll calculations.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and ad hoc requests, researching and resolving issues in a timely and service‑oriented manner.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries for month‑end and analyze payroll‑related month‑end variances.
  • Identify payroll discrepancies and independently troubleshoot issues, escalating unusual or higher‑risk matters when appropriate.
  • Support payroll documentation, audits, reconciliations, and process improvements as required.
Who You Are:
We would love to hear from you if you have:
  • 5+ years of full-cycle, multi-state U.S. payroll processing experience.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on ADP Workforce Now experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll taxation, including experience with state and local taxes and setting up state/local tax accounts.
  • Experience processing California hourly payroll and navigating complex multi‑jurisdiction payroll requirements.
  • Experience importing pay, time batches, and employee data in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Experience writing and using ADP Workforce Now reports.
  • Experience with payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end variance analysis.
  • Familiarity with RROP calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly organized and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines and a high volume of daily requests.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a service‑oriented approach to employee and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying focused, accountable, and responsive.
Nice to Haves:
  • CPP designation completed or currently in progress.
  • Canadian payroll processing experience.
