Overview Of Position
The Elementary School Assistant provides clerical and administrative support for the school, maintains attendance records, communicates truancy information to parents, and serves as a primary contact for public inquiries.
- Answers incoming telephone calls for screening, transferring, and responding to inquiries.
- Assists the lead secretary with financial transactions and reports (e.g., requisitions, bookkeeping, supply tracking).
- Communicates with students, teachers, parents, and district employees to resolve problems and coordinate activities.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic reports, documents, and confidential files (e.g., attendance records, discipline reports, parental letters).
- Supervises students in multiple settings (recess, hall, transportation, lunch room) to ensure a safe environment.
- Notifies parents or guardians of absences to meet district and regulatory requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from staff, parents, other schools, and students.
- May conduct background checks on volunteers.
- Administers medication or first aid under a health care professional’s direction.
- Participates in meetings, trainings, workshops, and conferences as required.
- Performs related duties consistent with the scope of the position.
Reports to the Principal of the assigned school.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge- Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios).
- Reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, and following multi‑step instructions.
- Age‑appropriate activities, business telephone etiquette, and grammar/punctuation concepts.
- Ability to perform multiple non‑technical tasks and upgrade skills as needed.
- Operating standard office equipment and software (SAP, Sub Finder, Power School) and maintaining accurate records.
- Scheduling activities, collating data, and using basic equipment.
- Working collaboratively with diverse individuals and data sets, managing interruptions, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Problem‑solving to identify issues and develop action plans.
- Meeting deadlines and communicating effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Work under limited supervision, follow standardized practices, provide information to others, and operate within a defined budget.
Working EnvironmentTypical duties involve lifting, carrying, and moving items; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional crawling. About 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing in a clean, healthy office setting.

EducationHigh school graduation or GED equivalent.
ExperienceOne year of clerical work with public contact and one year supervising children.
Required TestingNone.
Certificates & LicensesValid Washington State Driver's License or equivalent mobility authorization.
ClearancesCriminal Justice fingerprint background clearance.
