NOTE:
This position is offered as a hybrid role in the Seattle, WA area. You must be willing to work in office at the Nordstrom Seattle office a minimum of 3 days/week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) to be considered for this position. We are not offering relocation for this position at this time.
We are looking for highly motivated, customer obsessed, and results oriented Finance Managers to join the Merchandising Finance team supporting the Nordstrom Merchandising Group. This role will partner with a subset of our Divisional areas (e.g., Apparel / Designer / Shoes / Beauty) by directly collaborating with business leaders and their teams, providing data-driven insights on performance & opportunities, and supporting action plans to deliver on sales, margin, and inventory goals.
This role will also support planning for major product strategies and business initiatives, incorporating ongoing performance to drive future results. This role is well-suited for you if you are a collaborator and someone with a high-level of curiosity, a strong foundation in finance and analytical skills, and can think critically to solve problems.
- Partner with senior leaders to anticipate future business opportunities and challenges. Quantify impacts of decisions and risk / opportunity scenarios to inform executive decision‑making
- Participate in the development and execution of our strategic merchandising and financial plans; help integrate the Merch perspective more directly into Finance decision-making by being a front‑line link between Finance and Merchandising
- Build new capabilities on the team by identifying opportunities to support improved business results, by guiding formation of new processes, and by managing and mentoring junior team members on their development journeys
- Define measurement approaches and build tools to monitor performance of our core business and strategic initiatives in order to inform future actions
- Collaborate with business leaders and cross functional partners to develop business cases and financial modeling to support investment prioritization. Effectively discuss potential benefits, costs, and tradeoffs with leaders
- Support ad hoc analyses and special projects—both through individual contributions and management of junior team members. Generate insights from analysis as well as synthesize and clearly communicate findings to support executive‑level decisions
- 5+ years of relevant experience with scope and accountability progression, merchandising experience a plus
- Proven experience in analysis, modeling, and reporting financial performance
- Ability to build strong relationships with peers, business partners, and senior leadership
- Excellent MS Excel and PowerPoint abilities, experience with Tableau and SQL a plus
- Storytelling experience with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and timelines
- People management experience a plus
- Attention to detail, data integrity and accuracy
- Retail industry experience a plus
