The FO Consultant is a senior specialist within the Private Bank's Family Office Solutions team responsible for advising ultra-high-net-worth families on the formation, design, governance, and evolution of their family offices. Working in close partnership with the Family Office Strategist, the FO Consultant brings deep expertise in family office operating models, governance structures, family enterprise dynamics, succession planning, and organizational design to help families navigate complexity and build sustainable multi-generational enterprises.
The FO Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to family principals, family executives, and professional advisors, helping clients evaluate whether a family office is appropriate, define the optimal structure, establish governance frameworks, clarify decision-making processes, and implement best practices that align with family objectives and values. While the Family Office Strategist leads overall business development and coordination of the broader Bank of America platform, the FO Consultant provides specialized advisory expertise in the organizational and governance aspects of family offices.
Family Office Formation & Design
- Advise families on the creation, evolution, and optimization of single-family office structures.
- Assess client needs and develop recommendations regarding family office operating models, staffing, compensation design, governance, and service delivery frameworks.
- Guide clients through decisions related to in sourcing versus outsourcing functions, organizational structure, and operating efficiency.
- Assist families evaluating family office formation following liquidity events, business sales, generational wealth transfers, or other significant life events.
- Develop customized family office roadmaps and implementation strategies.
- Facilitate discussions around family governance, decision-making, communication protocols, and family leadership structures.
- Advise families on governance best practices, including family councils, family assemblies, investment committees, and advisory boards.
- Support the development of family mission statements, family constitutions, governance policies, and operating principles.
- Help families navigate complex family dynamics, generational transitions, and leadership succession challenges.
- Along with the philanthropic advisors, assist clients with establishing charitable structures covering board oversight, grant strategies and compliance.
- Partner with clients to strengthen family engagement across current and future generations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to family principals and family office executives on organizational and governance matters.
- Lead diagnostic assessments and benchmarking exercises to evaluate family office effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
- Present recommendations to family leadership groups, trustees, boards, and advisory committees.
- Facilitate workshops, governance meetings, family retreats, and strategic planning sessions.
- Develop customized solutions tailored to the unique needs of each family enterprise.
- Partner closely with Family Office Strategists on complex client and prospect opportunities.
