Construction Inspector
Job Description
The Construction Inspector will provide field-based construction inspection, field verification, and compliance monitoring for projects within the State of Good Repair portfolio. This role supports construction quality, field oversight, documentation accuracy, and compliance with contract requirements across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, and electrical work. Inspectors will perform on-site inspections during active construction, review plans, specifications, and approved submittals, verify materials and workmanship, and document field activities, deficiencies, and testing observations.
This role may support multiple projects concurrently and may require work during nights, weekends, or shutdown periods.
Responsibilities
+ Perform on-site inspections during active construction.
+ Review plans, specifications, approved submittals, and contract requirements.
+ Verify materials and workmanship and monitor contractor compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
+ Document field activities through Daily Inspection Reports, photo documentation, field records, deficiency logs, and testing observation records.
+ Identify and track non-conforming work or deficiencies for resolution by the Construction Manager or Resident Engineer.
+ Observe and document testing activities, verify installed quantities, support payment verification, assist with corrective action tracking, and participate in progress meetings.
+ Support project closeout, including punch list verification, as-built condition documentation, and compilation of inspection records.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 5 years of construction inspection experience in the relevant discipline, or minimum 3 years of inspection experience plus 2 years of engineering/construction experience in the relevant discipline.
+ Demonstrated experience in at least one primary inspection discipline, with the ability to coordinate across multiple trades and interfaces.
+ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, contract requirements, and construction schedules.
+ Familiarity with public agency construction practices, quality documentation, field reporting, and contractor coordination.
+ Experience documenting field activities through DIRs, photo documentation, deficiency logs, and testing records.
+ Working knowledge of safety requirements, construction sequencing, and access constraints in active operating environments.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, or similar project documentation/reporting systems.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Skills & Qualifications
+ Relevant construction inspection certifications are preferred but not required.
+ For special inspection support, qualifications such as ICC, AWS, ACI, NICET, or equivalent are beneficial.
Work Environment
The role functions in coordination with the assigned Construction Manager and/or Resident Engineer. Inspectors may be required to work across multiple projects concurrently and during non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, or shutdown periods. The role will utilize Sound Transit systems and standards for documentation and reporting. Inspectors do not have the authority to direct contractor work, approve changes, or interpret contract requirements.

This is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $49.00/hr.
