Summary

The Superintendent is the front‑line production leader responsible for the execution of assigned tasks on U.S. Navy ships and submarines. IMIA performs abrasive blasting operations using high‑pressure compressed air, ultra‑high pressure water jetting for surface preparation, and hand‑held equipment to remove existing coatings. During coating application, IMIA uses plural and single component spray pumps and hand‑held tools to apply coatings. The Superintendent manages the execution of work, ensuring teams performing blasting, coating application, cleaning, equipment set‑up, and waste removal meet safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements.

The Superintendent works closely with project management professionals to ensure production teams execute tasks in accordance with project schedules and serves as the direct supervisor providing hands‑on leadership and supervision to foremen, managing equipment operation and ensuring workforce adherence to standard operating procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete walkthroughs of spaces each day prior to start of shift, ensuring work is ready, clearing the path as necessary, and ensuring foremen receive the right crew‑mix to execute their assigned tasks.
  • Provide Daily Plan of the Day for foremen and teams and set daily project goals.
  • Ensure foremen survey spaces for hazard identification, mark‑ups, equipment readiness, conduct toolbox huddles, and take corrective action to keep employees safe and achieve daily goals.
  • Oversee and monitor projects to ensure work is completed and meets safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Work within the scope and budget assigned to the project and coordinate progression of the job with management and the customer.
  • Review job schedules and project complexity to determine work priorities and assign appropriate trade staff to specific jobs/tasks each day and week, looking ahead and preparing the plan.
  • Maintain control of personnel/project staffing for all tasks as assigned, ensuring staffing and turnover for 2nd or 3rd shift are completed each day and sharing manning resources with other projects when possible.
  • Submit crew‑members’ timesheets into payroll by deadline.
  • Interact effectively with sub‑contractors and shipyard personnel.
  • Ensure safety policies are adhered to and compliance requirements are met.
  • Provide project managers and support staff with project updates and other relevant information.
  • Implement inspection checklists, receive and ensure safety walk‑through discrepancies are corrected.
  • Participate in job planning activities for upcoming projects, including identifying equipment needs, foremen needs, and manning needs.
