Estimator – Commercial Construction
DPR Construction is seeking an estimator with at least 5 years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities:
- Handle the project from first estimate through to finalizing subcontract agreements.
- Identify gaps in project information, ask questions, and provide a complete cost evaluation.
- Advocate for customers, ensuring clear communication throughout the project.
- Develop innovative solutions for cost, lead times, trade partners, or specified products/materials.
- Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility documentation.
- Update estimates as design evolves, develop variance summaries, and conduct value engineering studies.
- Assemble presentation‑quality estimate packages that clearly communicate project cost.
- Collaborate with the project team to define staffing and requirements.
- Apply knowledge of unit costs and influencing factors.
- Prepare detailed bid instructions, trade clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Lead the bidding process: solicit bids, evaluate proposals, use bid tally sheets.
- Recommend subcontractor awards and negotiate and finalize subcontracts.
- Prepare and present cost/budget information to customers/owners.
- Participate in RFP responses and formal project presentations.
- Develop and maintain business relationships with new and existing customers.
Qualifications:
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Creative and innovative problem‑solving on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Team player with strong internal and external collaboration.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, estimating software (Win Est, Timberline, or similar), take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff, or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC, or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera, or similar).
- Minimum 5years as a commercial construction estimator, preferably in DPR’s core markets.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
- Strong work ethic and a “can‑do” attitude.
