Project Manager (Heavy Civil) – Marine Construction
This role combines Superintendent and Project Manager responsibilities to lead complex pile driving and marine construction projects, with a particular focus on wharf construction and pre-cast systems. You will split your time between the field and the office, providing hands-on leadership on-site while also driving detailed planning, scheduling, and cost control activities. The position requires a strong command of heavy civil marine construction, Primavera P6 scheduling, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders to deliver large-scale waterfront projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities, including pile driving operations and pre-cast installations for marine and wharf projects.
- Lead foremen and collaborate closely with Field Engineers to ensure field execution aligns with project plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Plan operations several months in advance to ensure resources, materials, and equipment are in place for efficient project delivery.
- Manage detailed project schedules, including sequencing of work, critical path activities, and milestones using Primavera P6.
- Coordinate and oversee materials procurement, subcontractors, personnel, and equipment to support safe and efficient field operations.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety standards, quality expectations, and project specifications across all phases of construction.
- Maintain a consistent leadership presence on-site during construction hours to provide direction, resolve issues, and support field teams.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop detailed operational and construction execution plans.
- Track and manage project costs, production rates, and schedules, and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain project performance.
- Oversee equipment maintenance programs and verify that all equipment meets safety and operational requirements.
- Manage subcontractor performance, including scope clarification, coordination, and enforcement of quality control standards.
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, logs, and other project records.
- Support contract management activities, including change orders, billing, and coordination of contractual obligations with stakeholders.
- Participate in the management of RFIs, submittals, and construction documents to ensure clarity and compliance with design intent.
- Promote and reinforce a culture of safety, ethical conduct, and accountability on-site for all project participants.
- Perform additional duties related to marine and heavy civil construction management as assigned.
- Work with consideration for reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, ensuring inclusive and safe operations.
- 7–15+ years of experience in marine construction with a strong focus on pile driving, wharf construction, and pre-cast systems.
- 10+ years of experience in field or office leadership roles within marine construction.
- Proven leadership experience managing large-scale waterfront and marine projects from planning through execution.
- Experience with heavy civil construction projects, particularly those involving marine and wharf structures.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules.
- Demonstrated experience with construction management activities such as scheduling, coordination, and field supervision.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan operations months in advance and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills for effective coordination with field teams, engineers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Strong contract management skills, including understanding of scopes, obligations, and performance requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and ethical conduct in all aspects of project delivery.
- Experience in managing subcontractors and overseeing construction supervision on complex projects.
