Job Description

The Superintendent (Heavy Civil) oversees and coordinates all on-site construction activities for complex marine and heavy civil projects. This role requires extensive construction management experience and strong, hands-on leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the specified quality standards. The Superintendent is accountable for planning and organizing materials, subcontractors, personnel, and equipment, while serving as a visible champion of safety, hazard recognition, and ethical work practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

+ Supervise and coordinate all daily activities on construction sites for marine and heavy civil projects.

+ Plan, schedule, and organize materials, subcontractors, personnel, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient project execution.

+ Lead the on-site construction team, providing clear direction, coaching, and support to maintain high performance and morale.

+ Champion safe working conditions and practices, ensuring hazard recognition and control measures are consistently implemented and enforced.

+ Maintain a strong on-site presence during construction hours to provide leadership, resolve issues, and keep work progressing according to plan.

+ Manage project schedules using Primavera P6, monitoring progress and adjusting plans to meet milestones and overall project deadlines.

+ Oversee quality control on all aspects of the work, ensuring construction meets design specifications, codes, and company standards.

+ Coordinate and manage subcontractors, ensuring their work aligns with project requirements, safety standards, and schedule commitments.

+ Administer and manage construction contracts, including change orders, documentation, and communication with project stakeholders.

+ Review and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications, and communicate requirements clearly to field teams.

+ Collaborate with project engineers and other project management personnel to solve technical challenges and maintain project momentum.

+ Monitor site safety performance and conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions as needed.

+ Support and enforce company core values by taking care of people, doing the right thing, and continuously seeking better ways to execute work.

+ Represent the project and company professionally when interacting with clients, partners, and other external stakeholders.

+ Ensure all work is executed with a strong focus on ethical conduct, environmental responsibility, and long-term community impact.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 10 years of construction experience within marine construction or heavy civil construction.

+ Minimum of 2 years of experience as a superintendent leading projects with a value of $10 million or more.

+ Proven leadership experience managing large-scale waterfront projects.

+ Hands-on field experience combined with supervisory experience in a specific construction discipline such as marine construction, structures, heavy lifts, or concrete.

+ Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software for planning and managing project timelines.

+ Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring of complex construction projects.

+ Demonstrated experience in construction supervision and subcontractor management on heavy civil or marine projects.

+ Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction documents, drawings, and specifications.

+

Experience with civil construction practices, including wharf construction and pile driving.

+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced field environment.

+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with field teams, project management, and external stakeholders.

+ Solid contract management skills, including handling change orders and maintaining accurate project documentation.

+ Demonstrated, unwavering commitment to safety, hazard recognition, and safe work practices.

+ High ethical standards and integrity in all aspects of project leadership and decision-making.

+ Experience working with general contractors and on high-profile marine infrastructure and energy projects.

+ Quality control for marine and heavy civil construction projects.

+ Site safety experience, including leading safety initiatives and fostering a strong safety culture.
