Base pay range

$28.00/hr - $33.00/hr

About the Role

We’re looking for a sharp, adaptive writer/editor who can transform community-driven conversations into crisp, magazine-style stories. In this role, you’ll turn user-generated discussions into clean, engaging articles across multiple formats—including AMAs, listicles, narrative stories, and debate-style features.

You should be an editorial pro who understands voice, pacing, and structure—and who can bring order, clarity, and narrative polish to conversational content. You’ll draft and refine articles using a mix of your own craft and LLM‑assisted workflows, ensuring accuracy, clean linking, and a compelling editorial frame suitable for broad consumer audiences.

This role is fully remote, with a preference for candidates available during West Coast working hours.

What You’ll Do
  • Write & Edit: Produce daily article drafts (with LLM support); line‑edit for clarity, flow, and neutrality; ensure every sentence has intent and impact.
  • Refine & Format: Select the right article format for each assignment and maintain consistent brand tone and style.
  • Source with Integrity: Pull verbatim quotes from top community comments; attribute to communities (not individuals); apply correct linking rules and clean permalink standards.
  • Maintain a High Quality Bar: Strengthen language, tighten structure, and elevate work produced by both humans and LLMs; identify recurring issues and feed learnings back into prompts.
  • Apply Policy & Safety Standards: Follow “avoid” categories, handle profanity appropriately, and flag edge cases.
  • Collaborate Across Time Zones: Work with curators, editors, and Media/Comms partners to incorporate feedback quickly.
  • Track Metrics: Monitor throughput, edit rate, link accuracy, and turnaround time to continually improve output.
  • Package Trends: Watch news cycles and platform conversations to surface timely, high‑interest angles and convert UGC into standout stories.
Must‑Haves
  • 5+ years of experience in digital writing/editing (newsroom, magazine, or high‑volume content production).
  • Demonstrated skill in short, neutral, magazine‑style framing with strong headline/subheadline craft.
  • Proven ability to turn social or user‑generated content into polished, narrative‑forward articles using verbatim quotes.
  • Mastery of writing mechanics: varied sentence structure, parallel lists, active voice, and tight 500–800 word stories.
  • Experience working with LLMs (Gemini, ChatGPT, etc.) and refining prompts for better outputs.
  • Excellent standards on attribution, linkage, accuracy, and basic fact‑checking.
  • Strong sense of timeliness, trends, and audience interest.
  • Familiarity with online communities and their cultures.
Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Experience on a copy desk, in fast‑turn features, or in social packaging.
  • Basic analytics literacy (CTR, read time) and CMS experience.
  • Background as a reporter or editor.
How Success Will Be Measured
  • Editorial readiness: % of drafts hitting 80%+ on first pass.
  • Edit rate: Reduction in manual edits needed over time.
  • Accuracy: Zero tolerance for misquotes or mislinks; minimal corrections post‑publish.
  • Throughput & timeliness: Meeting agreed daily/weekly output cadence.
  • Trend response: Ability to identify and package timely user‑generated stories aligned with current conversations.
Application Requirements

Please share a few samples that showcase your ability to turn social or user‑generated conversations into clean, compelling features—at least one example should include a strong reporting structure.
