Reason is the monthly magazine of “free minds and free markets.” Founded in 1968, the magazine covers politics, culture, and ideas through a provocative mix of news, analysis, commentary, and reviews. Reason and  provide a refreshing alternative to right-wing and left-wing outlets by making a principled case for liberty and individual choice in all areas of human activity.

Are you a fast, careful editor who loves free minds and free markets? Reason wants to hire you.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to do meticulous but swift copy edits, proofreads, and fact checks. He or she will also have an in-depth understanding of politics and public policy, and an appreciation for the libertarian worldview. Familiarity with the A.P. Stylebook is a major plus. A successful editor may be asked to take on additional editing tasks (for additional pay).

Candidates, if hired, should be available to edit during a four-hour editing shift during Reason's nine-to-five Eastern time workday, Monday to Friday. Work can be done remotely or from our awesome Washington, D.C., office. This position reports to Deputy Managing Editor Fiona Harrigan.

• Copy editing quick-turnaround news items for
• Spotting typos, factual errors, or unnecessary cliches from a mile away
• Learning the ins and outs of the A.P. Stylebook and the Reason Style Guide
• Research and fact checking as needed

• Previous journalism and/or editing experience
• Solid grasp of journalistic practices
• Sharp organizational and writing skills
