Position: Lead Live Sound Engineer

Position Overview: The Lead Live Sound Engineer supports The Vera Project’s live audio program, collaborating with the Audio Committee, Education Director, Artistic Director, Production Manager, Show Staff, and Core Staff to oversee audio equipment, training, and youth mentorship.

Key responsibilities:

Audio Engineering
  • Manage The Vera Project & Black Lodge venues’ live audio equipment, including proactively maintaining upkeep, repair, installation, and utilization.
  • Research, advise, and collaborate upon organizational investments in live audio equipment and infrastructure.
  • Support audio Show Staff and volunteers in troubleshooting equipment.
  • Coordinate and prepare audio equipment for both venue and external PA rentals.
  • Participate in our annual special events, including Viva Vera, GENERATOR, Live from our Living Room, and more.
  • Collaborate with staff and instructors to mentor aspiring audio technicians.
  • Attend monthly meetings and work directly with VERA’s Audio Committee to develop youth-driven programming, special projects, and space improvements.
  • Advise educational staff and committee members on the development and implementation of audio classes, workshop, and production lab curricula.
  • Lead quarterly hands‑on training sessions with interested members and volunteers.
  • Assist in the development of external partnerships for training and job placement.
Requirements
  • Must have working knowledge in full-frequency PA system builds, attenuation, and basic sound treatment.
  • Ability to maintain and repair relevant equipment, including soldering broken components such as speaker cabinets, microphones, and cabling (TRS, XLR, speak‑on).
  • Ability to work effectively within an all‑ages nonprofit environment with special focus on youth (ages 15‑24) mentorship.

Reports to: Artistic Director

Hours: Part time 10‑15 hours per week, 20 hours per week during Live Production Lab cohorts (Summer Programming)

Pay Rate: $28/hr, non‑exempt, W2 wage‑earning employee

Additional pay opportunities as a member of VERA’s Show Staff – rates vary per venue and are non‑taxed 1099 income

ABOUT THE VERA PROJECT

The Vera Project (VERA) is an all-ages, volunteer-fueled music and arts organization operating multiple spaces and venues. By engaging participants at all levels of music production and community organizing, VERA fulfills its mission to foster a participatory creative culture through popular music concerts, arts programs, experiential learning, and volunteer opportunities for all ages, especially young people 14‑24. VERA programming is primarily conducted at our space at the Seattle Center, including the following:

Classes fuse with experiential learning opportunities and a volunteer-driven structure that engages young people in the arts, fosters intergenerational communication, and gives constituents the skills necessary to pursue their creative and professional passions.
