On Call (Fill In) Board Operator – Bonneville Seattle
Bonneville Seattle, home to KIRO Newsradio 97.3, Seattle Sports, 770 KTTH and , seeks a skilled, dependable board operator to manage the technical side of broadcast operations. The role requires on‑site work at our Seattle location.
Position OverviewThe Board Operator ensures a clean, polished on‑air presentation and compliance with FCC requirements. Responsibilities include operating the studio console, managing logs, airing commercial spots, addressing emergency alerts, recording satellite feeds, and maintaining equipment and transmitter parameters.
ResponsibilitiesPrimary job duties:
- Operate the on‑air console to ensure smooth programming, accurate logs, emergency alerts, and transmission within FCC parameters.
- Pre‑broadcast check of studio equipment, troubleshoot and report technical issues.
- Become an expert on audio console, Adobe Editing, News Boss, and Zetta.
- Edit and post podcasts.
- Coordinate music and sound levels for assigned shows.
- Cross‑train and maintain knowledge of all board operator shifts; fill in for teammates.
- Assist talk‑show producers with social media content creation.
- Screen phone calls as needed.
- Collaborate with producers to produce "best‑of" content.
- Maintain positive rapport with staff, management, and clients.
- Handle responsibilities assigned by management on a rotating basis.
- For overnight shifts: hourly visual inspection of the studio, troubleshoot automation issues, report building problems to supervisors or authorities.
- Reliable with flexibility to work weekdays, overnights, weekends; ability to reach the stations within two hours for on‑call shifts.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet on‑air deadlines.
- Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and collaborate with a team.
- Adaptable to changes and direction.
- Effective communicator with clear instruction interpretation.
- Willingness to assume responsibility under moderate supervision.
- Experience with broadcast equipment operation and basic production skills (preferred).
- Experience in live play‑by‑play sports broadcasting (preferred).
- Experience in coordinating remote connections (preferred).
- One year or more commercial broadcast experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in sound production and audio editing, including Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Audacity (preferred).
- Highly creative sound production and show ideas (preferred).
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Ability to raise hands and coordinate hand movements.
- Manual dexterity to operate computer keyboards and office equipment; ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Capacity to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
$21.70 – $23.34 per hour, determined by education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.
