Position: SEIU (SEIU6 Property Services NW)

Summary

SEIU6 Property Services NW is seeking a creative and digitally adept Communications Associate to join our team. This position works under the Communications Director to produce digital and print content that tells the story of SEIU6 to our members and the world. We are looking for someone with strong videography, social media, and graphic design skills who can create visually compelling stories that connect individual struggles with collective solutions.

Top candidates will have the desire to fight not only for the economic interests of the working class, but for equity at the intersections of race, gender, immigration status, the environment, and the future of work.

About SEIU6 Property Service NW

SEIU6 is a labor union representing over 10,000 janitors, security officers, airport, stadium, and allied industry workers in Washington State. SEIU6 is a highly diverse local union with members from Washington and all over the world, and over 30 languages spoken. Through organizing and collective power, SEIU6 members raise standards for working families at the worksite and beyond.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead in recording and producing video and photographic content for social media channels, the SEIU6 website, and other platforms used by internal/external audiences
  • Travels to worksites and union events to gather communications content, such as taking photos, capturing videos, interviewing members, and assisting staff and allies.
  • Update social media accounts, including regularly creating and curating content, amplifying and reposting union partnership content, and coordinating with members on the Communications Team on creating, editing, and scheduling posts.
  • Work with Communications Director to write and create draft of print and digital materials for both member and public audiences including emails, leaflets, flyers, newsletters, blog posts, talking points, letters to the editor, op-eds, fact sheets, videos, and social media posts for various campaigns. This also includes editing and revising others’ content as necessary.
  • Assist with conducting communications trainings for members and staff.
  • Collaborate with members, staff, and community groups to assist on communications messaging and strategy.
  • Assist in preparing members and staff on speaking engagements such as public testimony, speeches, presentations, or responding to inquiries from the news media.
  • Monitor social media comments and email inboxes and route concerns or questions to other staff as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required to support SEIU6 and its mission.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Strong video production and video editing desired (with proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and/or programs like Final Cut, Resolve, AVID)
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, and Capcut
  • A passion for social media content, engagement strategy, and management
  • Strong writing skills and ability to write engaging copy for a general audience
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles and best practices; and a desire to stay up-to-date with emerging digital trends
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience in building strong working relationships
  • Background in writing, design, journalism, social justice, education, communications, or related field
  • Strong personal commitment to racial equity; experience applying a racial equity lens to campaign development is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of judgment
  • Experience working alongside communities of color and/or immigrant and refugee communities is preferred
  • Driver’s license and car (with insurance) required

Fluency in a language other than English is strongly preferred

Compensation

Salary range is $34.16 – $36.06 DOE. Excellent benefits including 100% employer‑paid, full family health insurance; pension; and car allowance. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
