• Wednesday rehearsals 5:00 pm–6:30 pm, late September through early June

This position provides expertise in orchestral instruction at the middle school level and conducting to lead the MYSE Middle School Orchestra. The role participates in planning repertoire, rehearsals, and concerts.

Music Youth Southeast (MY Southeast) is an extracurricular orchestral ensemble Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra co-created with the South Seattle community. MY Southeast contributes to the vibrant arts culture in the Rainier Valley by celebrating the gift of music and performance with the community. MY Southeast musicians will perform a wide range of musical styles, ranging from Beethoven to Pharrell Williams! Other music may include collaborations with other performing arts ensembles (dance, voice, etc.)

• Program diverse repertoire for the concert season, following the artistic direction of the Music Director and MYSE team.
• Conduct rehearsals so as to make the most efficient use of students’ and coaches’ time.
• Work with SYSO Music Librarian to coordinate the preparation of music for rehearsals, communicate needs for music procurement, preparation, copying, distribution to the librarian according to season schedule.
• Communicate regularly with the Chamber Music Manager & Schools Liaison and Music Director on all musical matters.
• Communicate regularly with the Director of School and Summer Programs on all pertinent matters related to rehearsals, coaches, schedules, student/family relations.
• Be an advocate of SYSO in all educational and musical communities.
• Assist in recruiting students for SYSO’s academic year and summer programs.
• Furnish information needed for concert programs (seatings, program notes, bios) in a timely manner.
• Participate in SYSO fundraising efforts as requested.
• Knowledge of music and music instruction
• Knowledge of artistic planning

• Collaboration and teamwork skills
• Proficiency with Google Drive

• BA or BM in music performance or music education, or 4-5 years of equivalent experience
• Experience working in music and/or educational environment at middle school levels desired
