Multimedia Journalist

KOMO News is seeking an energetic, enterprise-driven Multimedia Journalist to expand our sports coverage across broadcast, digital, social, streaming and audio platforms.

This journalist will help lead coverage of the mega-successful sports brands that define Seattle, including the Seahawks, Mariners and Seattle Storm. The position will play an important role in maximizing KOMO’s partnerships while delivering smart, visual and original coverage that connects with fans throughout Western Washington.

The successful candidate is a strong visual storyteller who can report, shoot, write, edit and publish compelling sports content independently and collaborate closely with KOMO’s Sports Director, newsroom, digital and sales teams to grow audience and create sponsorship opportunities.

• Report, shoot, write and edit original sports stories for KOMO newscasts, KOMO , social platforms, streaming and podcasts.
• Cover breaking news, games, major events, athlete features and enterprise stories involving the Seahawks, Mariners, Seattle Storm and other key Pacific Northwest teams.
• Help maximize KOMO’s Seattle Storm partnership through distinctive reporting, features, digital content and promotional opportunities.
• Develop stories that go beyond scores and highlights, bringing perspective, accountability and strong local relevance to sports coverage.
• Create digital-first video, articles and social content that reaches fans throughout the day.
• Work with the Sports Director and newsroom producers to ensure sports stories are positioned prominently when they are meaningful to the broader community.
• Contribute to and help grow KOMO sports franchises, podcasts and special-event coverage, including sponsored content opportunities where appropriate.
• Build and maintain relationships with teams, athletes, coaches, community leaders and fans.
• Represent KOMO professionally at games, events and in the community.
• Meet daily deadlines while maintaining strong editorial judgment, accuracy and fairness.
• Work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays and travel as sports coverage requires.
• Assist with general news coverage and other newsroom assignments on an occasional, as‑needed basis.

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least two years of reporting, shooting and editing experience preferred; sports reporting experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to tell memorable stories on television, digital and social platforms.
• Strong writing, live reporting, interviewing and editorial judgment.
• Proficiency with non-linear editing, mobile journalism tools, content‑management systems and social publishing.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Deep knowledge of Seattle and Pacific Northwest sports culture is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record required.

The hourly compensation range for this role is $33.51to $35.51. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans,flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
