About the ProjectLiving Voices is casting Black male-identifying performing teaching artists to present two different multimedia educational theatre productions:
OUR REVOLUTION — a Black Continental soldier’s experience of the American Revolution.
THE RIGHT TO DREAM — a Black student activist in the 1960s Civil Rights movement.
The selected performer will train in, and perform, both productions.
Living Voices is an award-winning professional educational theatre company focused on history and social justice. The company produces 13 unique, one-person multimedia shows in repertory for schools and community organizations nationwide. Artists present performances and facilitate pre- and post-show discussions.
Living Voices programs combine a single live performer with audio/video, visual aids, and discussion. The multimedia film synchronizes with the performer and incorporates archival footage and photographs. Performers introduce the program and facilitate discussion with audiences afterward.
A typical Living Voices day includes 1–3 programs. Audiences vary from elementary through high school students, universities, community groups, museums, and corporations. Audience sizes range from a single classroom to hundreds in an auditorium or theatre.
Teaching experience is not required, though an interest in education and social issues is important.
