Position: Recreation Assistant 2 - North Bellevue Community Center

Job Summary

City of Bellevue Parks and Community Services is hiring a Recreation Assistant 2 at North Bellevue Community Center. This partially benefited position involves active monitoring of physical Parks & Community Services Department sites during scheduled events. The Recreation Assistant 2 will plan, organize, and lead recreation programs for youth and adults for up to 23 hours per week. The employee will handle front‑desk shifts, Saturdays 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., monitor rental events, provide customer service, assist with projects or shifts as needed, and drive a 15‑person passenger van for program transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organize and lead recreation programs for youth and adults, including Saturday morning programs (9 a.m.–3 p.m.).
  • Drive a 15‑person passenger van.
  • Unlock and lock city facilities for scheduled programs/events.
  • Monitor proper use of facilities by city and non‑city groups, enforce conduct rules, involve supervisor and law enforcement as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure participant safety.
  • Work with staff to develop a cooperative, supportive, and enthusiastic atmosphere.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and participants.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Provide high‑quality customer service to patrons and staff.
  • Complete reports accurately and timely.
  • Perform other tasks and duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and complete required paperwork.
  • Work as a team member exploring reasonable accommodations for participants on an individual basis.
  • Front‑desk customer service at NBCC, including answering phones, responding to program questions, registering customers, and handling money.
  • Use Bellevue Parks scheduling software for class registration and payment processing.
  • May perform other recreational related tasks during monitored events.
  • During rental programs, breaks and lunches are paid and must be taken on‑site to be available to renters in case of emergency.
  • While working at NBCC, lunches are unpaid and may be taken off‑site.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles, rules, materials, and equipment for a variety of program sites.
  • Effective communication with the public and employees concerning event issues.
  • Comfortable using basic computer software for program registration and payment.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Written report preparation skills.
  • Present a neat and professional appearance.
  • Enthusiastic and positive outlook.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR training.
  • Embrace individual and group differences.
  • Ability to lead a diverse group of people.
  • Must have Washington State Patrol form cleared.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
