Position Title: Post-Doctoral Fellow – Craniofacial Orthodontics

Department: Seattle Children's Dental Clinic

Location: Seattle Children's Hospital – Seattle, WA

Duration: 12 Months

Position Overview

Under the supervision of a licensed Orthodontist, the Craniofacial Orthodontics Fellow will provide specialized orthodontic and pediatric dental care to children and adolescents with craniofacial anomalies and cleft conditions at the Seattle Children's Dental Clinic.

This 12-month post-doctoral fellowship is designed to offer advanced clinical training and exposure to a large patient volume in a multidisciplinary, hospital-based care environment. The primary focus involves treating congenital and acquired defects, injuries, and esthetic conditions of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face for pediatric, adolescent, and special needs populations.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Provide specialized orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Evaluate tooth and jaw growth/development for cleft and craniofacial patients.
  • Deliver special care orthodontics in close collaboration with speech pathologists, oral surgeons, and craniofacial plastic surgeons in an integrated hospital setting.
  • Manage conditions, defects, traumatic injuries, and esthetic needs of the face and jaw for pediatric and adolescent patients with complex craniofacial differences.
Education & Academic Leadership
  • Actively assist in providing clinical instruction, training, and education to dental residents in Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Plastic Surgery.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences and clinical case reviews.
Research & Scholarship
  • Participate actively in ongoing clinical outcome studies and case series analyses.
  • Prepare and present original clinical research at a national meeting (supported by the department).

Required Education And Experience

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or DMD Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Advanced training in an Orthodontics program accredited by the American Dental Association Commission.

Board Eligibility or Certification in Orthodontics

Advanced Dental Education in Orthodontics.

Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges at Seattle Children’s and other sites as applicable.

Required Credentials

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Prior to start of employment, must obtain, and maintain in good standing, medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment.

Preferred

Previous experience working with children and adolescents with medically compromised and developmentally delayed pediatric patients and patients with craniofacial anomalies.

Compensation Range

$87,000 per year

Relocation:

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
