Industrial Designer – Industrial Design Lead
Lead a high‑performing Industrial Design team focused on consumer hard goods, driving design initiatives from concept through to manufacturing while collaborating closely with Product Management, Engineering, R&D, and Supply Chain.
Responsibilities- Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of industrial designers, ensuring creative and design excellence across all products.
- Drive the development of aesthetic direction, materials selection, construction methods, mechanisms, shape, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
- Lead the design cycle from concept to design finalization, ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget.
- Allocate resources across a large portfolio of products, reviewing project status, refining schedules, and communicating with cross‑functional peers and leadership.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to problem‑solve design challenges and envision intuitive user interfaces and functionality.
- Guide ideation sessions, cross‑functional brainstorms, user research, and trend analysis to fuel future product development.
- Advocate and implement design processes, documentation, and best practices to deliver consistent, high‑quality results.
- Travel internationally up to 15% of the time as required.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial Design.
- 10+ years of experience as a practicing industrial designer for consumer hard goods.
- 5+ years leading an industrial design team or studio (consumer hard goods preferred).
- Proven track record delivering a consistent flow of projects with on‑time delivery.
- Expertise in Solid Works, Rhino 3D, Keyshot (preferred) or other rendering software, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Strong skills in sketching, conceptualization, and design for manufacturability.
- In‑depth knowledge of plastic injection molding, metal forming, and CMF (color, material, finish) techniques.
- Experience presenting to customers and communicating directly with engineers and overseas factories.
- Excellent people‑management skills with a passion for optimizing team output.
- Ownership of processes and continuous improvement through new tools and techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in working with outside consultants when necessary.
- Ability to collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, R&D, and Quality Assurance toward brand growth.
- Commitment to design for sustainability.
- Strong social and communication skills for engaging large and diverse audiences.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 15% of the time.
- Starting salary between $130,000 and $155,000.
