Position: Project Architect / Arch 1-2

Starling Whitehead & Lux Architects seeks to add a new architectural staff member to join our Seattle-based team. We value self-directed individuals with excellent communication and technical skills who are looking to build their community as well as their knowledge and career.

SWL Architects is a small office in downtown Seattle, working in the public sector in Washington state. Our projects vary in size, type and style, and respond to the unique programs, site and community in which they are built. We support career growth and development, with the goal of developing licensed Architect Project Managers within our firm. We seek an individual to:

Responsibilities
  • have responsibility for proactively contributing to project teams on projects of varying size and complexity;
  • represent the design team – and support the owner – through all project phases from initial planning through project close-out;
  • work independently to manage and produce drawings for smaller project deliverables
  • play an active role in developing design concepts and drawing and detailing their technical execution;
  • participate in project meetings in all phases;
  • assure the efficient and effective execution of project tasks to maintain project schedules;
  • communicate clearly and professionally with design team, owner and consultant team;
  • author and assemble narrative reports, schedules, supporting documentation and images during planning and at design milestones;
  • support design intent and be sensitive to how project decisions impact on design concepts; and
  • learn from more experienced team members and mentor and lead less experienced members.
Qualifications
  • A professional degree from an accredited program.
  • 5-10 years work experience, interest in higher ed education projects essential.
  • Proficient and productive in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam and MS Office. Graphics skills in Photoshop, Lumion and/or Sketch-up preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in construction detailing and modeling essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, consistent attention to detail.
  • Curiosity and drive to engage in problem solving and develop solutions.
  • Self directed with the ability to work individually and within a collaborative team.
  • Licensed Architect preferred. Unlicensed candidates actively progressing through the testing process may be considered.
  • LEED credit knowledge or accreditation a plus.
