As part of Human Resources, the employee communications team provides creative support to programs and change initiatives that make the Port a great place to work. Our work connects employees to important news, events, resources, and opportunities that are essential to a rich employee experience.

You will assist the Employee Communications Manager by administering and producing content for our primary internal communication channels. Your duties may include:

  • Regularly reviewing and updating content on the employee intranet website, SharePoint sites, digital information displays, and other channels;
  • Basic troubleshooting and consultation for internal communications channels;
  • Assisting with the production of training materials and standard operating procedures;
  • Designing branded communications materials, including documents, forms, flyers, infographics, and presentations;
  • Employee-centered journalism, photography, and videography;
  • Providing administrative support to various HR-led programs and events.
  • Designing apps and workflows with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate;
  • In addition to gaining valuable experience with communications tools, techniques, and strategies, you will get a firsthand look at the operations of a highly active human resources department that supports all aspects of the employee experience, including recruiting, development, benefits, safety, culture, and employee relations.
Who you are:
  • A student – You must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate from a 2–4-year undergraduate degree program (< 1 year ago).

What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule – This is a part-time (15 to 20 hours per week) position during the school year with a possible extension to a full-time (40 hours per week) position in the summer. Normal work hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. You must commit to 15-20 hours per week, 4-5 days per week (Mon to Fri), during the business day (7am to 6pm).
  • Work Environment – This role may be primarily conducted remotely in accordance with the Port’s Flexible Work Arrangement policies. However, many activities and events will require work in-person at Port offices, facilities, and outdoor properties.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than one year.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
