Role OverviewThe Principal Product Designer is the lead individual contributor design voice for the Core Transfer Experience, owning the end‑to‑end design vision for Remitly’s core remittance flow, from the moment a customer opens the app through the post‑submit experience.
Responsibilities- Set and drive the design vision
- Define and evangelize a compelling North Star vision for the end‑to‑end remittance experience (home screen → transfer setup → post‑submit).
- Lead navigation architecture and interaction language for the transfer flow.
- Spot and influence strategic design opportunities across Remitly’s core product surfaces.
- Simplify and unify systems where appropriate, making confident design decisions even when systems are not yet documented.
- Lead and elevate the design community
- Act as the embedded lead designer for the Transfer Flow squad and the UX leadership voice for Home & Explore, Recipient & Payment Experiences, and Post Submit.
- Define and elevate interaction design standards, mentoring designers and forging best practices for inclusive, accessible experiences at scale.
- Influence cross‑functional processes, align teams on design direction, and reconcile conflicting feedback.
- Execute with craft and drive outcomes
- Translate customer research, quantitative signals, and business strategy into design decisions that improve conversion, send volume, and customer trust.
- Prototype fluently and quickly; produce flows, wireframes, and full‑fidelity designs ready for engineering handoff.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, and Content Designers, contributing decision memos and design rationale.
- Work in a hybrid capacity from the Seattle office, 2–3 days per week.
- 10+ years of product design experience with a portfolio of shipped, customer‑facing mobile work at scale.
- Deep expertise in mobile consumer product design, especially complex, multi‑step transactional flows.
- Proven ownership of end‑to‑end experiences, setting design vision across an entire product journey.
- Strong point of view on navigation patterns, information architecture, and interaction design for native mobile.
- Experience providing design leadership across multiple squads or product areas, influencing without authority.
- Balance strategic direction‑setting with hands‑on execution, comfortable presenting both to leadership and delivering high‑fidelity prototypes.
- Expert‑level Figma skills and fluency with complex prototyping, interaction design, and design system contribution.
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate design rationale and drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Research, and senior leadership.
- Background designing for global audiences, including localization, accessibility, and RTL/LTR considerations.
- Experience with AI as a design tool, using it to accelerate discovery, synthesis, and prototyping.
- Experience in fintech, payments, remittance, or other high‑trust consumer financial products.
The starting base salary range for this position is $168,000–$210,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders; equity is part of the total compensation plan.
