Healthcare Shares is a healthcare venture capital fund investing broadly in social-impact healthcare startups. We are forming a cohort of Sports Medicine Physician Advisors within our multidisciplinary clinical network to ensure investment decisions reflect real-world musculoskeletal injury patterns, return-to-play safety standards, athlete monitoring logic, and scalable rehabilitation and performance pathways.
Role Overview
Sports Medicine Physician Advisors will support the investment diligence process by evaluating startups through the lens of injury-prevention analytics, musculoskeletal diagnostics, conservative vs. surgical referral thresholds, athletic load monitoring, performance recovery, and safe return-to-activity frameworks. While our investment scope is broad, sports medicine contributes essential perspective on tissue-healing timelines, biomechanics, concussion clearance, overuse-risk modeling, and youth vs. elite athletic variability.
Core Responsibilities- Conduct clinical review of technologies impacting musculoskeletal injury assessment, concussion management, athletic rehabilitation, movement biomechanics, and wearable performance analytics.
- Evaluate safety claims, return-to-play clearance logic, prevention algorithms, diagnostic imaging accuracy, and real-time load monitoring fidelity.
- Support diligence by assessing scalability across youth sports, collegiate and professional programs, orthopedic networks, and virtual rehab environments.
- Advise portfolio companies on rehabilitation progression protocols, strength/conditioning integration, tele-rehab workflows, concussion follow-up standards, and overuse-injury mitigation.
- Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, neurologists, and primary care to review escalation pathways and interdisciplinary decision points.
- Track emerging trends in movement-capture AI, wearable injury prediction sensors, digital PT platforms, concussion analytics, and remote recovery coaching.
- Board-certified Sports Medicine Physician with experience in clinic-based MSK care, concussion management, team physician oversight, school/college/pro sports coverage, or rehab coordination.
- Familiarity with ACL/MCL injury patterns, tendinopathy, stress-fracture risk, concussion protocols, and return-to-play benchmarks.
- Experience with performance data platforms, motion analysis, PT digitization, tele-rehab, wearable sensors, or recovery analytics (preferred but not required).
- Ability to translate sports-injury timelines, athletic variability, and rehab logistics into investment evaluation, safety review, and adoption feasibility.
- Commitment to equitable access to sports performance medicine, injury prevention, and youth athlete safety.
- Influence how innovation shapes injury prevention, concussion care, musculoskeletal recovery, and athlete-safety technology nationwide.
- Collaborate with multi-specialty clinical peers guiding social-impact healthcare investment decisions.
