Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the University of Washington invites applications for 3 faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, with an anticipated start date of October 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment.

(Assistant Professors are eligible for a 3-year term eligible for renewal beginning July 1, 2030.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI).

Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.

The successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Perform a wide range of non-invasive cardiac imaging modalities including transthoracic, transesophageal, 3D-echo, strain, fetal and cross sectional imaging.
  • Perform and interpret imaging and physiologic data needed to understand underlying pre and postoperative simple and complex cardiac congenital pathologies in neonates, children, and adults.
  • Serve as an attending physician in the Echocardiography Laboratory at Seattle Children's Hospital. Timely completion of echocardiogram interpretation and reporting of results with appropriate communication to referring providers.
  • Participate in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children's Leadership.

Clinical Care:

  • Participate in outpatient, inpatient cardiology and consultation.
  • Provide excellent clinical care and in the process, supports safe, efficient and high-quality services.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients,
  • Engage with consultants and other providers in a multi-disciplinary model of care.

Planning:

  • Work with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained.
  • Participate in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children's Leadership.

Regulatory:

  • Support timely review of any patient safety events.
  • Respond in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints.
  • Support legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate regularly in physician variability documentation and IAC conferences to maintain lab accreditation.
