Opportunity Description

Seattle Central College is looking to hire two Academic Advisors (Program Specialist) for the Academic Advising Office.

Salary Range

$61,512 to $80,820 annually (depending on experience).

Position Summary

This Program Specialist III is a full-time, classified position in Advising, Transfer, and Running Start at Seattle Central College. The position reports to the Director of Advising, Transfer, and Running Start and is responsible for providing enrollment, retention, and completion assistance, and transfer exploration to students attending Seattle Central College. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to independently assist students with a range of academic and/or career advising needs, as well as lead departmental efforts in the new student orientation process.

The Program Specialist III position will provide support to the Advising and Transfer Center and Running Start. The role will have liaison and content expert responsibilities for one or more of our Academic Division offices.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Provide academic/transfer advising and career exploration for students in both individual and group settings; advise students on a variety of topics related to their educational and professional goals.
  • Assist students with the development of short- and long-range education plans, tracking academic progress and referring to instructional and student services departments as necessary.
  • Provide supportive intervention and outreach to students; make appropriate referrals to college resources or community agencies for personal counseling, academic probation, or related issues.
  • Approve students adding or dropping of classes within established college and program enrollment policies; assist with obtaining permission to enroll in classes and reviewing prerequisite requirements with students.
  • Coordinate and conduct new student orientation sessions, registration, and information sessions for students while proactively supporting program planning, evaluation, and troubleshooting.
