Overview
Seattle Central College is looking to hire STEM Tutors for multiple subjects for the Learning Support Network. Optimal candidates will have the ability to tutor Math at a minimum of the full Calculus series and additional STEM subjects. Tutoring subjects include Math (Calculus and above) plus Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Nursing, Dentistry, Physics, Engineering, and Statistics.
Position DetailsThe hourly range for this position is $21.09 - 26.07 per hour (depending on experience). Initial review of application materials will begin on January 26, 2026. This position is part-time, working up to 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, primarily in person between the hours of 10am-7pm. Times and days are subject to change quarter to quarter based on need.
PositionSummary
Under direction of Learning Support Network staff, student tutors will be responsible for providing one-on-one, embedded tutoring, and group tutoring to students in their subject area(s) of expertise. Student tutors will be expected to work on campus, whether tutoring students in-person or online. In addition, student tutors will mentor new tutors and assist with marketing and outreach of the tutoring services and learning centers.
This position will work primarily during academic quarters when classes are in session. Work activities may be assigned onsite or remote/online. Trainings and meetings will be conducted primarily onsite. This position is part of the Libraries, Learning Support, and Employee Development division, and is committed to student-centered, equity-producing, antiracist, and accessible tutoring services.
- One-to-one tutoring:
Meet with individual students to assist with coursework and assignments, mentor them on academic study and college success skills, direct them to relevant campus resources, and promote self-efficacy as learners. - Group tutoring:
Lead group tutoring sessions in specific academic subject areas. - Embedded tutoring:
Serve as an embedded tutor in assigned class(es), provide one-on-one and group tutoring, and communicate with faculty regarding assignments and coursework. - Outreach and Marketing:
Give quarterly classroom presentations about tutoring services, assist with hallway tabling, and help distribute marketing materials. - Participate in training and staff meetings:
Attend required training and staff meetings as part of ongoing tutoring professional development. - Mentor new tutors:
Help orient new tutors to integrate into the learning centers and share tutoring best practices. - Computer assistance and technology:
Help students access applications including Canvas and Microsoft Word; use Zoom, Starfish, ctcLink, Office 365, Microsoft Teams, email, and related tools. - Perform other duties as required.
- Completed college-level coursework in the selected subject area(s), with a GPA per class between 2.5 and 4.0.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively and constructively with others.
- Consistent access to a functional computer and reliable internet.
- Evidence of successful work as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize technology tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other applications or platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, including English as an Additional Language learners and students with varying English proficiency levels, diverse backgrounds, and differing physical and intellectual abilities.
