Learning Support Specialist

.6 FTE (25 hours per week)

Position Summary

The Learning Support Specialist supports the mission of the Catholic school by ensuring all students, regardless of learning style, ability, or background, have access to a high-quality, Catholic faith-centered education. This role focuses on creating inclusive, supportive learning environments through direct learning and behavior intervention support in collaboration with teachers, families, and administrators. The Learning Support Specialist provides expertise in differentiated instruction, intervention practices, accommodations, and learning support consistent with Catholic values and the dignity of every learner.

St. Brendan Catholic School has one class per grade in preschool through 8th grade with a total of 250 students. The mission of St. Brendan Catholic School, in partnership with parents and the parish community, is to educate and empower students to act as Disciples of Christ, pursue academic excellence, and serve the Church and global community.

Key Responsibilities Student Support and Intervention
  • Provide direct instruction to students in grades K-8 through individualized or small‑group settings.
  • Lead intervention classes as defined by school schedule.
  • Design and implement accommodations, modifications, and learning strategies aligned with student plans or service agreements.
  • Utilize data‑informed behavior analysis to design, implement, and evaluate proactive behavior support plans and interventions that promote positive student outcomes.
  • Utilize research‑based instructional methods and interventions to address academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional goals.
  • Support students in developing self‑advocacy, social‑emotional skills, and executive functioning.
  • Working with the Student Support Team, collaborate with evaluators, therapists, and support teams to assess student needs and manage academic and behavioral support plans.
Teacher Collaboration and Support
  • Partner with teachers to implement differentiated instruction, universal design for learning (UDL), and effective intervention strategies.
  • Model inclusive practices and co‑teach when appropriate.
  • Assist teachers in designing assessments that offer multiple means of expression and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with Archdiocese Diversified Committee.
Family Partnership
  • Serve as a partner with families regarding student support services.
  • Communicate progress, needs, and strategies in a clear and compassionate manner.
Program Development
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the school's inclusion and learning support programs.
  • Maintain documentation and confidential student records in accordance with school and archdiocesan policies.
  • Provide or coordinate professional development for teachers on inclusive education, learning differences, and behavioral support.
  • Collaborate with administrators to ensure compliance with relevant policies and best practices.
Faith and Mission Alignment
  • Foster an environment that reflects Catholic values of compassion, dignity, justice, and respect for all learners.
  • Support students' spiritual development.
  • Model Catholic values and commitment to the school's mission.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience working in inclusive education settings or providing specialized learning support.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions, multi‑tiered systems of support (MTSS), and student assessment tools.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church and willingness to support the Catholic identity of the school.
Salary/Benefits

Thesalary range for this position is from $35,000-$50,000. Any offered salary isdeterminedbased on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications. This position is not eligible for benefits.
