St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School is a Preschool-8th grade parochial school in Tacoma, WA. We are seeking a full time Middle School English Language Arts teacher for the 26-27 academic school year. St. Charles' Middle School is a triple graded classroom school where teachers work closely together and share students. The ideal candidate fosters a love of reading, writing, critical thinking, and discussion while supporting students' academic, social, and spiritual growth.
Candidate must have a current Washington State Teacher Certificate and demonstrate strong knowledge of Middle School childhood development.
- Demonstrate a passion for English Language Arts and the ability to guide students in developing strong skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, academic writing, grammar, vocabulary development, and speaking and listening, aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the Archdiocese of Seattle religion standards.
- Integrate faith-based values and Catholic teachings into classroom instruction and school life.
- Experience teaching middle school level students, with a strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents.
- Communicate clearly, consistently, and professionally with parents and families to support student success.
- Utilize differentiated instruction strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners in mixed-ability classrooms.
- Design and implement engaging lessons aligned with state and national standards-based assessments.
- Foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of literature across a range of genres, while supporting cross-curricular connections in social studies, religion, and other disciplines.
- Effectively integrate technology into instruction; experience with Google platforms (Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, etc.) is preferred.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students and families.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills as a member of a professional learning community.
- Exhibit strong classroom management skills that promote a structured, supportive, and faith-filled learning environment.
- Candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to teach religion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is compensated at a percentage of the Tacoma Public School rates of pay, one year in arrears.
