The Dean on Special Assignment is a cross‑functional school leadership position designed to support high‑priority initiatives or projects that directly impact student outcomes, school culture, and/or staff development among other areas. In collaboration with other network leaders, the Dean plays a critical role in advancing school‑ or network‑wide priorities by leading targeted projects, supporting implementation of key strategies, and collaborating across teams to build capacity and drive impact.
This role is ideal for an experienced Summit educator or leader who possesses strong relationship skills, brings strong instructional and operational instincts, and is eager to take on a specialized leadership assignment in service of the broader Summit community.

We operate 10 schools serving over 3,300 students in the Bay Area and Washington state. 100% of Summit graduates are college ready and Summit graduates complete college at double the national average.
- Lead and manage high‑priority, cross‑functional projects aligned to school and network‑wide strategic priorities
- Partner with school and network leadership to strengthen school systems and operations, which could include curriculum, expeditions programming, scheduling, data collection, event logistics, or compliance‑related tasks.
- Support instructional improvement efforts by potentially facilitating professional development, coaching teachers, and analyzing student data to inform practice.
- Serve as a bridge across teams—academic, operational, and cultural—ensuring coherence, accountability, and timely communication throughout the duration of the special assignment.
- Step in to cover leadership duties across domains as needed to support overall school functioning.
- Engage families, students, and staff in change processes to build investment in key initiatives, monitor feedback, and adjust approaches responsively.
- Collect and report progress data on assigned initiatives to school and network leaders, adjusting strategies based on results and input.
- Commitment to uphold Summit’s values, belief that all children deserve a rigorous and equitable education that prepares them for college and for life
- Bachelor’s Degree (a Master’s Degree in Education and/or participation in the Leadership Fellows program is preferred but not required)
- A minimum of 1 year of leadership experience
- Teaching experience within a Summit school or extensive teaching experience elsewhere
