The Highline Public Schools Human Resources Department is seeking a Peer Mentor (Elementary Special Education) to join our team of educators for the upcoming  school year!

SUMMARY:

The Central Office Specialist is an accomplished teacher who serves in a leadership role at the system level. A specialist provides expert consultation through facilitating collaboration, instructional coaching, and serving as a system leader across a variety of roles. The Central Office Specialist sees their ongoing learning and development as essential to achieve equitable results for all students.

A Peer Mentor in the Elementary Special Education portfolio is an expert practitioner who supports new educators in delivering inclusive, high-quality instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Ideal candidates bring deep understanding of special education service models, compliance, and evidence-based instructional practices, paired with at least three years of successful teaching experience and a valid Special Education endorsement. They excel at modeling and coaching strategies that promote access, differentiation, and universal design for learning.

They ground their mentoring in an equity-centered approach to ensure all students are supported.

As part of a multidisciplinary team of five teacher leaders, the Special Education Peer Mentor collaborates to strengthen equitable practices and ensure beginning teachers feel supported in navigating both instructional and procedural components of their assignments. Through individualized coaching, data-rich inquiry, and facilitation of professional learning communities, this mentor advances inclusive school cultures and promotes the success of all learners. The selected candidate will also be required to complete the BEST Mentor 101 Academy.

Upcoming Mentor Academy 101 trainings will be held on 3/21 and 3/28.

Endorsement:
Special Education

Term-limited: 4 year.

Required Qualifications:

* WA State Teaching Certificate with endorsements appropriate to subject area and grade level of assignment

* Three years successful teaching experience

* One year successful experience as a specialist or similar role

Preferred Qualifications:

* Endorsement in content-specific area
