Acting Assistant Professor (IQuS Senior Researcher) - University of Washington

The Department of Physics at the University of Washington invites applications for up to two IQuS Senior Researchers in the area of quantum simulation to join the InQubator for Quantum Simulation (IQuS) in the Department of Physics, beginning in Summer or Fall 2026.

IQuS brings together local researchers, long-term visiting scientists and participants of strategic-selected community-driven workshops. It helps guide basic research and co-design efforts to evolve simulations from present-day NISQ-era quantum computers to fault-tolerant/error-corrected quantum computing and simulation, and to achieve quantum advantages in fundamental physics. IQuS Senior Researchers work with faculty, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students whose current activities include fundamental and applied aspects of quantum information science, simulations of dynamics and thermalization in quantum field theories and quantum many-body systems using quantum devices, and the study of quantum complexity in quantum systems.

They are encouraged to develop related independent research activities. We have collaborations with scientists at national laboratories, technology companies and startups, as well as researchers associated with the umbrella Quantum-X at UW and the Northwest Quantum Nexus. Further information about our research can be found at .

An Acting Assistant Professor is annually renewable for up to four consecutive years, contingent upon continued funding. This is a full-time 9-month position (per year) and is not eligible for tenure. IQuS is committed to funding this position for 12 months annually, including 3 months of summer support each year. The base full-time equivalent salary range for this position will be $82,000 - $86,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Successful applicants will have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) and two or more years postdoctoral experience in quantum information science, and/or fundamental physics and/or quantum computing and simulation, or related fields.

Applications should include a cover letter, CV, a statement of research interests, a statement describing the applicant's experience, and three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin December 15, 2025. Please direct all inquiries to facsrch@.
