Jesuit education, also known as Ignatian education, is an approach to education inspired by the teachings and principles of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a Catholic religious order. Jesuit education is known for its emphasis on intellectual rigor, moral and ethical development, and the holistic formation of individuals. Jesuit education is not limited to Catholic students, and our own and many more Jesuit institutions welcome students of various religious backgrounds.
The principles of Jesuit education have been influential in the development of a well‑rounded, values‑based approach to education that extends beyond the classroom and into the broader community.
Seattle Prep seeks a full‑time English and Collegio instructor, beginning August 2026. This is a one‑year only position and ends in June 2027.
The Collegio Program at PrepCollegio is a team‑taught, interdisciplinary course and a required part of Prep's freshman, sophomore, and junior curriculum. The Collegio program rests on the premise that intensive, interdisciplinary study of the humanities will enrich students' lives and help prepare them for the challenges of adulthood. In Collegio, students gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world by studying history and literature concurrently.
As they become familiar with the values and traditions of Jesuit education, they see the roles that people of faith have played in a variety of cultures. The course strengthens academic and personal skills by focusing on reading, writing, critical thinking, and public speaking. In the Jesuit tradition, all levels of Collegio focus on the student's formation as a leader who is intellectually competent, spiritually alive, open to growth, loving, and committed to justice.
